Into the Nether by Jesus-Tks Into the Nether by Jesus-Tks
I wanted to do something with suns again, basically.

Critique is welcome, I may also get up a pack - for now the only resolution is 1680x1050 but if there is enough deman I'll upload multiple versions.

Thanks, I was really trying to go for a hot-looking star with this (Granted, if I was going for total realism I'd have made it blue/white, but red just looks hotter :D)

very nice star. type G main sequence i suspect. haha kinda nerdy that i know that. But you did a nice job CME's and flares and the overall "heat" feeling to it.

I love the way the flares dance around the corona. With the tiny space ships flying towards it, I am suddenly reminded of the old classic arcade shooter, Gyruss. Good times. :)

Never played Gyruss myself, though I see what you mean.

This is uncannily like Sunshine. Is that what you are going for?

I suppose it was in the back of my head while making this (I've not actually seen the film but the trailer and artwork for it is extremely striking).

Then again, there isn't a great deal you can do with having a star as the main focus of something without it looking like the artwork from that film ;)

Thanks :)

fractals for fx?

p.s. I love the ships for breaking the monotony :)

Yeah, mostly fractals, its really not that hard to recreate if you want to give it a go yourself for anything (The same technique works well for other fx, if you can manipulate it) :)

If you want any resources or anything, just note me mate :D

Awesome work, the sun looks amazing!
There is one thing I don't like though and it is that the starships ( 'couse it is starships right? :p ) makes the sun look small :(

Anyways, amazing piece! Good job!

I know you shouldn't have to, but if you think on it, the relative distance of the ships and the star would be very different - the ships would be at a few thousand miles, the sun at maybe a few hundred thousand :)

And thanks :)

Really good, the minimalistic approach works very well, after all - Suns would be so bright that you won't see every detail, even this is probably viewed at 2% total brightness lol :sun:

I like it alot actually, especially how the sun looks so painted and beautiful, but I feel like it's too simple. Maybe add some planet in the back or an eclipsing planet to add a new twist.

I wanted a version for wallpaper, which is why it's bland. However, I may use this as the base of a more complex image soon :)

I do mine with mostly fractals - they're relatively easy to do though. Just make a planet texture, about 5000x5000 or above, and start with a plain, slightly desaturated colour. Build up on that with a lot of fractals on soft light, or screen on a low opacity - the idea is to get a texture that has a lot of details, but very little contrasting points. Then spherise, and postwork, using fractals for the flares.
